Goren

Visitors to the show at Japan’s Spiral Arts Center, in cooperation with the Israeli Embassy of Japan, were mesmerized by the cloud of chaff – designed from wheat harvested specifically from Hokkaido, North Japan.  The installation included more than 2,500 meters of brass wire – allowing the wheat to appear as though it was floating up from the “threshing floor” (Goren in Hebrew).

The art piece, the second in the Goren series, was designed intentionally to change its form depending of the architectural space. In Tokyo, the installation was indoors in a round spiral gallery and so the entire installation was built in harmony with its environment. Its form, sparkled like a talisman of golden jewelry, and morphed in the eyes of tens of thousands of visitors as they ascended the ramp inside the Spiral Arts Center.

Surrounding the floating centerpiece, and levitating in glass tubes along the ramp, were the Goren signature varietals of ancient wheat from around the world, providing visitors a glimpse into a simpler day in time, when the harvested wheat was connected to and born from the environment from which it was sheathed.  Much like our chandelier embued a harmony with the gallery it was displayed in, so our varietals intended to reintroduce this ancient harmony wheat had with humanity.

‘Goren’ Tokyo won the best exhibition award of DesignArt Festival 2019 as a proud member of the JerusalemDesignWeek delegation
